Nurtured by Nature
I've helped my mum create a Bear Blog for her poetry.
She has always been incredibly creative, in every sense of the word. But after her brain injury, the space between having an idea and bringing it to life grew wider. When she was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year, the gap got wider still. Her world became smaller and most of her days turned into bed days.
At first the view outside her window was just... a view. But then something shifted, and slowly, the tree she could see stopped being a reminder of everything she couldn't do and became something that got her through.
As she went through changes in her life, so did the tree. Watching its leaves and branches move slowly shifted her mindset, and she began to use it as a focus for mindfulness and meditation. Nature really is incredible.
It made me think about how important it is to have an outlet for our thoughts and emotions. My mum often struggles to explain how she's feeling, but through poems, she's been able to express the things that are hard to say out loud.
I realised what mattered most was helping her do it. To take that first step and turn her thoughts into action. That encouragement is what brought her blog to life.
If you'd like to follow along, you can find her poetry at Treemendus.
