Reflecting on the social media addiction trial

I just read a BBC article about Meta and YouTube being found liable of intentionally building addictive social media platforms, and it's made me think about my own habits.

The outcome of the trial isn't surprising, as even without the ruling, it's easy to see how it can pull you in.

Since I've been spending less time on Instagram and more time blogging, I've definitely felt a difference in my mood.

Blogging feels like the opposite of doomscrolling. You're making something, thinking through your own ideas, instead of scrolling through a feed designed to keep you hooked. You are the one in control.

Not everything needs a big takeaway, but for me this one is important: notice how social media makes you feel, and remember you get to choose how you spend your time.

I might just go and delete my Instagram.
